About the Partners

 

Theresa Amos Smullen—Partner/Executive Producer

 

Theresa has been a consultant to high technology, software and multimedia production companies since 2000. Her work is seen and heard on national, regional and local radio and television, on dozens of websites, as content supporting internal and external communications and at trade events held worldwide.

 

Theresa's diverse experience with network TV and radio broadcast companies, ad agencies and media buying firms, retail franchisors, internet start ups, and public and private high tech corporations gives her a solid foundation to manage projects for clients needing a strategic, experienced, dependable partner.

 

Before founding Altair, she was executive producer at San Diego's Four Square Productions, a respected full-service production company with clients nationwide. There she led broadcast campaigns, communication strategies and productions in the corporate, industrial, high technology, biotech, consumer marketing and entertainment categories.

 

Theresa is a member of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and is a member of the Pacific Southwest Chapter Board of Governors. She was awarded an Emmy by the Chapter and has also been honored with numerous other industry awards including Telly's, Asters, HCC Finest, and AMY's.

 

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from the University of Colorado and is acknowledged in Sterling's Who's Who Executive Edition and Who's Who Women in Business. Theresa is an active member of UCSD Connect, Healthcare Communicators, International Association of Business Communicators and BIOCOM. Volunteer activities include projects for the American Heart Association, BIOCOM, US Olympic Committee and Community Options.

A member of the Southwestern Yacht Club and Ancient Mariners Sailing Society, Theresa relaxes by sailing and racing her classic wooden yacht, Altair, with her husband, international sailor and acclaimed racing yacht builder Johnny Smullen.

 

Gregg Hovey—Partner

 

In addition to being an Altair partner, Gregg is a Senior Partner of Billiards International, a major producer of special events for ESPN. For 18 years Billiards International has set the standard in the industry for quality television programming.  He was formerly the president and CEO of Olhausen Billiards, and served as president of the Billiard Congress of America (BCA).

 

Gregg’s association with Theresa Amos Smullen began when she executive produced projects for Olhausen. This work included television and radio campaigns airing on ESPN, trade and store events plus long form instructional productions.

 

At Billiards International, Gregg’s principle responsibility is company growth. He also manages sponsorships within and outside the billiards industry, serves as liaison with billiards organizations, oversees host-site relations and develops mainstream media promotion.

 

Dave Roberts - Producer/Director

 

A 30-year production professional, Dave Roberts (DR) brings a unique combination of talents to every project. Producing, directing, and editing, Dave has been actively involved in production and post-production companies in Chicago, Phoenix, and San Diego.

 

In 1996 Dave was the founding member and Vice President/General Manager of The Dakota Group. The Dakota Group was consistently one of the top three production companies in San Diego according to the San Diego Business Journal from 1996 through 2005.  

 

Before arriving in San Diego, Dave worked for 10 years for Telemation Productions in a variety of capacities from director/editor and operations manager for their Chicago office, and then becoming Vice-President/General Manager of their Phoenix operation for six years. 

 

Producer and/or director credits include working with agencies on commercials such as: Kleenex, Nestles’ Crunch, Marshall Fields Dept. Stores, San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau, Barona Resort & Casino, San Diego Padres, Upper Deck, Viejas Casino, Alvarado Hospital, Del Mar Racetrack, Help-U-Sell, and most recently Shakeys Pizza and The Good Feet store. 

 

Recent corporate directing credits include: Barona Resort & Casino, Childhelp USA., Price Pfister, Sempra Energy, Olivenhain Water District, LG Phones, Wm. Lyon Homes, Merck Pharmaceuticals, Kindering Center for Autistic Children in Seattle, and the City of San Diego.  

 

Dave also has produced and/or directed infomercials for companies such as; Anchor Hocking, Tournament Golf Association, and Time-Life.  He has also produced and directed live college sports events for NBC and BET. 

 

Dave and Theresa have collaborated on several film and video projects over the last ten years. Client productions have included broadcast spots for PostalAnnex, Tesoro Petroleum, Image Arts etc, and corporate and web content programs for AMN Healthcare, DriveCam, MSHIPCO, and AnnexBrands.
